Students Eligibility

Participation in the SLSTP is limited to 24-30 currently enrolled undergraduate college students who meet the criteria listed below. Selected students will receive round trip transportation from their home, to the Orlando airport, and lodgings near KSC. Lodging, daily transportation and a meals allowance are provided. Students can earn up to five units of college credit.

Student Requirements:

U.S. Citizenship - Students applying directly to the SLSTP Program must be U.S. citizens or resident aliens. Non-U.S. citizens can apply through their nation's space program, if that country is sponsoring SLSTP students. Countries currently participating in SLSTP include Canada and the USA. Link to the top

Age 18 or older - Due to liability issues, students must be 18 years or older.

Undergraduates through non-graduating seniors - Students who will have graduated before the start of the program are not eligible.

Minimum freshman year completed at program start - A minimum of one year of college study must be completed before the SLSTP program begins. Freshmen are welcome to apply for the program, provided their second semester concludes before the program starts.

Pursuing a hard science major - Only "hard" science majors will be selected for SLSTP. These majors generally fall into the areas of: (such as but not limited to)

Agricultural Sciences

Plant Science

Computer Science

Biochemistry

Botany

Ecology

Bioengineering

Chemistry

Engineering

Math

Physics

Pre-Med

Soil Science

Biology

Pre-Vet

If you have any questions about the acceptability of your major, first check the frequently asked questions page. If you still have questions, email the program at slstp@kscems.ksc.nasa.gov Applicants should have a fairly good understanding of biology. This means one semester of college biology is preferred. However, other laboratory experience will be considered. Link to the top

Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 - Students must be enrolled and in good standing at any accredited 2 or 4-year junior college, college, or university and must have at least a 3.0/4.0 GPA.
